Speaking Engagements
I love being in the studio making art, but I also enjoy stepping out to speak about my career. I am truly living the dream as a Children's Book Illustrator, and I take any opportunity I can to share my enthusiasm. I offer three different types of programs for Libraries, Schools and professionals. "STORY TIME FOR LITTLE ONES"
Grades K-2. I explain very simply how books get made, and then I read the stories that I wrote for my Indestructibles Books. (Since there is no text in any of my books, I have written my own stories to go with the pictures). I play the multicultural music that inspired the art for the books while reading them. I also hold up extra large mounted prints of each page while reading so everyone can see the pictures. The story time lasts about 20-30 minutes. CLICK FOR PHOTOS

"FROM BRUSH TO BOOK"
Grades 3-8. This presentation is comprised of two formats. The Large Group option is a Keynote presentation about my art and how I get my work into children's magazines and books. The Art Class option is a hands-on study of how music can influence the way we create art. My goal is to ignite a creative spark within the students to write and make art, because this job really is like playing every day! I show the same presentation for different age groups, but I alter my speaking content slightly for younger or older kids, so it is important that I address students in no more than 3 grades during the large group presentation. *If you are over 50 miles from my Syracuse studio, I request a $1/mile fee to cover my travel and expenses.
"SIMPLIFYING SELF PROMOTION"
Professional Illustrators and College level. I offer an engaging presentation about the most difficult aspect of freelance Illustration- Self Promotion. I speak in a fun and professional manner with plenty of visuals, detailing all areas of self promotion, including Websites, Mailers, The Internet and Market Research, as well as agents. The focus of this presentation is standing out in a competitive field. The length is approximately 75 minutes plus time for questions and answers. *I require a VGA projector.
