Anybody who's ever watched a baby knows what will happen with anything he gets his little hands on—he'll put it straight to his mouth! Books are no exception. In fact, paper seems to be a favorite material for chewing, crinkling, crunching, wrinkling, sucking on, and playing with. Unfortunately, paper books (even board books) can get soggy and come apart, not only destroying the book but becoming a potential choking hazard for baby. Don't you wish you could let your precious little one delight in exploring books the way she'd like?

INDESTRUCTIBLES® took the world of baby books by storm last year, marrying beautiful illustrations with exceptional functionality and value.  Continuing the successful series are six new titles. Three of them, PLIP-PLOP POND!, JUNGLE RUMBLE! and MAMA AND BABY! feature the artwork of Kaaren Pixton, the original series illustrator. The other three new Indestructibles by artist Jonas Sickler put a multicultural spin on familiar nursery rhymes by setting them in exotic locales, from HUMPTY DUMPTY perched on top of the Great Wall of China to MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB, which follows the adventures of an adorable little girl and her lamb in Africa to the jazz-playing cat and his fiddle in HEY, DIDDLE DIDDLE, which is set in New Orleans. The details in these bright and whimsical paintings, whether it’s the elaborate costumes worn by “all the king’s horses and all the king’s men” to the drum-playing crawfish in HEY, DIDDLE DIDDLE, will give babies plenty to look at each and every time they go back to the books.


And because there are no words in INDESTRUCTIBLES®, Mom and Dad are encouraged to make up their own stories around the pictures—perfect for parent-baby bonding! Or if they do need a little help with the nursery rhymes on the Jonas Sickler books, moms and dads can always refer to the original text on the back of each book. As babies grow and develop, the stories can grow along with them, offering several years of happy reading without the fear of torn edges, ripped-out pages, and mysterious bite marks.

Here are the stories that Jonas wrote about the first three books. They are free to download and print. I hope they inspire you to make up your own versions.
